Financial evidence is one part of an Opportunity Card application. It shows that you can support your job search. It does not prove that your qualification fits, that you meet every other condition, or that you will find work in Germany.
The current official reference
For the Opportunity Card, Make it in Germany currently states that applicants must have sufficient financial resources to fund their job search. For 2026, the page gives a reference of €1,091 net per month. It states that a blocked account or a declaration of commitment can be used as evidence.
This amount is a route-specific official reference, not a personal cost-of-living guarantee. Rent, insurance, transport, deposits and daily costs differ by location and circumstance. Check the responsible mission’s current instructions for your case before opening an account or transferring money.
What a blocked account does
A blocked account is a banking arrangement used to show that a defined amount is available for living costs. The account’s use, release conditions and monthly payout process depend on the provider and the applicable residence purpose.
For an Opportunity Card application, the key question is whether the financial evidence meets the current official requirement. Do not select a provider only because an advertisement promises speed. Review the account terms, fees, refund conditions, transfer instructions and confirmation process yourself.
What it does not do
A blocked account does not:
- establish that you qualify for the Opportunity Card;
- replace qualification, language or points evidence where those apply;
- guarantee a visa decision, appointment, job or later residence permit; or
- make living costs predictable.
Keep the account confirmation, transfer record and official route page together with your other evidence. If a figure, form or document list changes, follow the current instruction from the responsible authority.
